dc.description.abstractThis paper aims to investige the areas of deficiencies in the speaking performance of the Sudanese secondary school studentsof English. The researcher used the descriptive analytic method as a research methodology. The data collection mythology used for teachers and other for students at secondary level. Having collected the data and analyzed it statistically by means of the SPSS package, the research comes up to the following findings. Secondary school teachers concentrate on building up learners’ vocabulary and understanding grammatical rules more than engaging them in communicative tasts. In addiction, teachers neglect speaking and listening skills. Most of the teaching activities are of the traditional modes such as dialogues, reciting texts and doing translation. The researcher recommended that, teachers should be keen about teaching English in general and developing speaking in particular. Schools should be provided with language labs or at least with some educational techniques introducing classroom communicative activities in good and interesting manners.en_US
