Abstract: | The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using reading strategies on comprehending English texts. It tries to find out how students can understand a piece of reading by using reading strategies in an attempt to encourage them to develop their reading comprehension skills. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. Data have been collected through: a questionnaire and a test for English language students at secondary level. The main findings of this study are: Reading strategies in reading comprehension are helpful to enhance reading skills, motivation and attitudes which are important in developing students reading skills more over and students were weak in reading comprehension and were unable to score excellent degrees in it. In the light of the results mentioned above، the researcher recommends the following: Teachers should adopt the reading strategies in teaching reading comprehension. They should select appropriate reading materials in terms of difficulty, cultural background and interest |
