This is a case control analytical study conducted at Khartoum State from January to July 2015, the aim of the study to determine some haematological parameters of diabetic pregnant women in Khartoum State. One hundred pregnant women were enrolled in the study, fifty pregnant women confirmed with diabetes mellitus as case group, and fifty pregnant women apparently normal as a control group. Informed consent was obtained from each participant before blood sample collection, informative data about age, type of diabetic, and gestational duration of participants was obtained by using designed questionnaire. Three ml EDTA venous anticoagulated blood samples were collected by using standardized procedure for blood collection, automated hematological analyzer (Sysmex Kx 21 N) was used to determine the hematological parameters. The results showed that RBCs, Hb, Hct, MCV,MCH, MCHC,RDW, TWBCs, Platelet count, MPV, and PDW mean values of sudanese diabetic pregnant women were 4.35 + 0 .38 cell/ μL, 11.5 + 0.73g/dl, 34.2 + 1.97%, 80.1 + 5.45 fl, 27.5 + 2.33 pg, 32.8 + 1.36 g/dl, 14.1 + 1.74%, 6.32 + 0.94 cell/μL, 255.08 +86.43 cell/μL, 10.3 + 1.52, and 13.6 + 2.26% respectively. In contrast the study revealed that the RBCs, Hb, Hct, MCV,MCH, MCHC,RDW, TWBCs, Platelet count, MPV, and PDW mean values of Sudanese healthy pregnant women were 4.27 + 0 .42 cell/ μL, 11.6 + 0.82g/dl, 34.5 + 2.32 %, 81.1 + 3.48 fl, 27.9 + 1.51pg, 33.5 + 1.06 g/dl 13.6 + 1.12%, 6.17 + 0 .90 cell/μL, 253.38 + 67.58 cell/μL 9.9 + 1.04fl and 12.9 + 1.82fl respectively. The study explain that most of hematological parameters of diabetic pregnant women showed insignificant difference compared to normal pregnant women in all trimesters except RBCs was increased significantly from 4.20 + 0.41 cell/μL in control group to4.44 + 0.36 cell/μL in case group in third trimester (P.value = 0.04), while Hb level in case deceased significantly from the 12.4 + 0.53 g/dl in the first trimester to 11.2 + 0.58 g/dl in the third trimester (p.value = 0.01). Also Hct of case group decreased significantly from the 36.2 + 1.51% in first trimester to 33.6 + 1.73 in the third trimester of diabetic pregnant women (p.value = 0.05). In significant difference of mean value of Red cell indices, WBCs, platelet counts, and MPV related to trimester of diabetic pregnant women, while PDW increased significantly from 13.1 + 1.35fl in control to 14.0 + 2.14 fl in case group in second trimester (p.value 0.009), The study concluded that age variation and types of diabetes mellitus not effect on hematological parameters in diabetetic pregnant women compared to healthy pregnant women. Negative correlation was founded between platelet count and MPV, and platelet count and PDW (r= - 0.795, p =0.00) and (r= - 0.652, p=0.00) respectively, and positive correlation between MPV and PDW(r + 0.774, p=0.00).en_US
