Abstract: The aim of the present study was to determine the knowledge in the first place, attitudes and practices (KAP) of population within the state of Khartoum, with regard to food safety and find out the relationship between consumer’s knowledge to food safety and numerous issues related to this topic such as “demographic characteristics of consumers, healthier lifestyle, general behaviors and thoughts with regard to food safety issues, source of information and finally the degree of responsibility of different entities regarding food safety” The results showed that 8% had an excellent level, 44% of consumers categorized under the good level, 30% had a moderate knowledge and 18% of them did not have the awareness and knowledge about safety of the food they consume. Most of consumers who had a moderate and good knowledge about food safety were found to be those having university education, with their age ranging from 20-40 years. Female represent 32.6%, 47.2% from those awarded good and moderate knowledge respectively. Most of the sources of information on the opinion of consumers were television and radio, which are still, have trust from people unlike newspapers. However the results of the analysis showed that there is a direct relationship between the Internet and the level of consumers’ knowledge. More over the results showed that the degree of knowledge of each individual has a strong link with his lifestyle by a way or another. Also 74.7% of consumers have expressed their responsibility to prepare a healthy and safe food for their families.
