Study of Aortic Dissection Using Computed Tomography and Echocardiography

Abstract

Aortic dissection occurs when a tear in the inner wall of the aorta causes blood to flow between the layers of the wall of the aorta. This study was conducted in Sudan Heart Institute for 25 patients suffering from aortic dissection there are 15 males (60%) and 10 females (40%) there aging from 24yrs to 83yrs, they underwent imaging with echocardiography and computed tomography angiography (CTA), measured Ejection Fraction in echocardiography and compared with measured of true and false lumens in CT . and we found males were more affected by the disease than females, and the most common cause of the disease is Hypertension, it was in some cases accompanied by chest pain(64%) and in other cases it accompanied by Diabetes Miletus(36). And we found the echocardiography is failed to diagnose all types of aortic dissection were it showed normal EF for patients they found suffering from disease when they were screened by CT, while CT scan could diagnose all types of aortic dissection by high accuracy.
