Abstract:
In this study the researcher assessed, the effectiveness
of computed tomography in the diagnosis of paranasal
sinuses and compared between two-images planes (Axial
and Coronal) when they are applied for the same cases.
This study is conducted at CT department in Medical
Salvation Center – Khartoum.
Random samples of fifty patients, males and females with
different ages and symptoms were chosen, axial and coronal
cut done to explain the suitable technique that demonstrate
the paranasal sinuses clearly.
This study was extended from April 2005 up to
November 2005.
Some of these cases had the same diagnosis by the two
image planes, while the majority of them were diagnosed only
by coronal.
Axial image has a role in the diagnosis of paranasal sinuses
but direct coronal scan is better and more sensitive than it.
It can be said that the two image planes when perform
together and used as essential technique of PNS that help to
obtain accurate diagnosis and demonstrate the anatomical
variation and any pathological changes.
