Objective: The Objective of this study is to detect the normal AFI in Pakistani women in 28 weeks and 36 weeks of gestation and compare it to previous studies. This study was done by practical scanning through which the data was collected in data sheet. The study was conducted from Feb 2006 to Dec 2006.
Method: One hundred patients of 28 weeks and 36 weeks of gestation for AFI who were studied in two different places.
1- Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences Lahore, Pakistan.
2- Rehman Ultrasound Clinic District Hangu (NWFP) Pakistan
Result: Total number of patients of 28 weeks was 45 and total number of patient of 36 weeks was 55.
Range of Age group of the patients was 20-36 years. Range of AFI with gestational age was as following.
►At 28 weeks AFI range was 12.4 to 18
►At 36 weeks range was 12.3 to 22.6
It shows AFI at 36 week was more than 28 weeks.
Conclusion.
Ultrasound is frequently available, non invasive inexpensive and easily assessable medical imaging modality AFI is assessed at 28 weeks and 36 weeks. AFI more than normal shows polyhydramnios. AFI less than normal shows oligohydramnios. Accurate assessment of AFI help us to diagnose maternal and fetal complications e.g. IUGR Fetal congenital anomalies and asphyxia etc. |
