Abstract:
The aim of this study is to evaluate routine quality control tests in nuclear medicine departments procedures in Sudan and to compare the results with the international guidelines. This study include three gamma cameras machines and three dose calibrators. The frequency and results of quality control tests for gamma cameras in hospitals were found, some of tests with acceptance limits with IAEA and NEMA-2001 standard, and some were not acceptuble. But the frequency of quality control tests for dose calibrators with the accepted limit. The considerable inter hospitals variation found in frequency and results can be explained by different machines and protocol selected. The quality of medical imaging has to be high to ensure total patient care. Regular external quality assurance by independent observer is one implement of overall quality management of nuclear medicine.
