Abstract:
In this study four flavonoid compounds were isolated. Their structures were
elucidated, and their biological activity was evaluated.
Dry powdered aerial parts of Pulicaria crispa were extracted with aqueous
methanol (70%). The crude extract was fractionated by polyamide and sephadex
columns and further purification was accomplished via paper chromatography.
Aerial parts of Pulicaria crispa were subjected to hytochemical screening and the
qualitative tests were positive to flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, terpenes, tannins
and glycosides.
Four flavonoid compounds were reported for the first time from the Sudanese
material of Pulicaria crispa, and their structures were elucidated by
spectroscopy techniques (UV, FTIR, 1HNMR and MS).

The crude methanolic extract and fractions (obtained from polyamide column)
were evaluated for their antioxidant activity and excellent results were obtained.
