Abstract:
Introduction:
The aim of this study was to measure haemoglobin,
haemocrit (packed cell volume) and red blood cell indices in
healthy Sudanese adult subjects of 17- 50 years of age in
Khartoum State. Total number samples were 500 (300 Males
and 200 Females ).
EDTA anti coagulant venous blood samples was collected
from each subject. The parameters were measured by using
automated Haematological analyzer (Sysmex KX-21) and
manual technique.
Analysis was done in laboratory of clinic of Sudan Judiciary
(Khartoum).
Computerize statistical package for social science (version
16) was used for data processing .
Blood samples were collected from Sudanese subjects
depend on the range of standard normal count of Hb, PCV
and red blood cell indices.
Subjects with symptoms with high or low readings were
excluded.
Aquestionnaire was fulfilled by each subject.
Investigations of
renal functions test and urine genernal
were performed in some of the persons to exclude if any one
with abnormality.
The result of study show that:
Haemoglobin concentration in males: 11.0 - 16.1g/dl and in
females 10.1- 15.5 g/dl, Hct (Packed cell volume) in males
30.0 - 48.4 % and in females 28.4 - 47.1 %. Mean cell
volume in males 80 - 100 fl and in females 80 - 100 fl, Mean
cell haemoglobin in males 19.4 - 33.7 pg and in females 19.9
- 32.3 pg. Mean cell haemoglobin concentation in Males:
27.3 - 37.8 g/dl and in femalea 25.2 - 37.5 g/dl.
Females had signifantly lower haemoglobin and packed cell
volume values than males. Haemoglobin concentration and
haematocrit (packed cell volume) values increased slightly
with increasing age, until the age of 40 years in males and
35 years females. Thereafter the relationship is reversed.
Original residence had no significant effect on the
haemoglobin, packed cell volume and red blood cell indices
under study
