Abstract:
The study was carried out to assess characterizations of liver in patients affected with bilharziasis by using the ultrasound.
It is done on 50 adult patient known of bilharzias is in Khartoum state during the period from the October 2011 to the April 2012 , all patients were investigated using U\S machine Mindery with 3.5 M HZ probe. Abdominal scanning was performed for all measurements were done for liver, right lobe, caudate lobe, portal vein caliber and assessment of liver echogenicity.
This study showed that the onset of the disease was detected in age group between 25 to 35 about (36%).
Also showed (70%) of patients had history of bilharziasis.
The study also found that the caudate lobe size in bilharziasis is enlarged 62% of the total patients.
It also revealed ultrasound had ability to asses and detect the bilharziasis impact in the liver with the consequence of the complications.
