Abstract:
The spleen is the largest organ in the reticuloendothelial system. , for many years the splenic size use as an indicator of disease activity in a variety of disorders of the reticuloendothelial system.
The objective of this prospective study is to evaluate normal spleen measurement (length, width, volume, CT number, and thickness) in adult Sudanese using CT and correlated to patients’ age.
For the males the mean splenic length, width, depth, and volume were10.2 -- cm (±1.-- SD), -6.0- cm (±0.7--- SD), -4.6--- cm (±o.7---- SD), and 280..6---- cm 3 (±71.6--- SD), respectively. For the females the corresponding values of splenic length, width, depth, and volume were9.6 ---- cm (±-1.1--- SD),5.3 --- cm (±0.7--- SD), -4.6-- cm (±0.7--- SD), and 235.9--- cm 3 (±-68.4-- SD), respectively.
The correlation between mean splenic dimension parameters for males and females showed that there was a linear relation between splenic length, width, CT, volume, and thickness with the patient age
