Abstract:
This study was carried out during the period from May 2007- March 2008 to detect
the presence of Enterobacter aerogenes in patients suffering from urinary tract
infection. Ninty three samples were collected from patients attended Khartoum
Teaching Hospital, Ibrahim Malik Teaching Hospital and Bashir Hospital.
Bacterial DNA was extracted from each urine specimen using phenol choloroform
technique.
Real time PCR technique was adopted to detect presence of E. aerogenes.
The result revealed that only one (1.1%) specimen was positive.
The study concluded that the real time PCR technique facilitates detection of bacterial
pathogens without bacteriological culture.
