Abstract:
This study had been carried out in Khartoum state during period between May 2007 to
March 2008 to detect E.coli in patients with urinary tract infection. Forty six
specimens of urine were collected from different hospital in Khartoum state.
Bacterial DNA was extracted from each urine specimen by using phenol-chloroform
method, then the real time PCR technique was adopted to detect E.coli.
The study showed that the positive results were 45.7% and the negative results were
54.3%.
The study concluded that the gene probe technique facilitates detection of bacterial
pathogens without bacterial culture.
