Mohammed, Suhair Sayed
The objective of this work was to draw attention to the mismanagement of domesticated and stray animals that affect their well - being, health and welfare. Some animals were brought to The Teaching Veterinary Hospital (TVH), College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Bahri, with different mismanagemental conditions that interfered with their normal lives. These conditions included, delayed delivery to veterinary services centers by their owners due to their presence out in the field , mishandling during loading and unloading , subjection to stressful work or harmful conditions while getting benefits from them , unsuitable housing and management, lack of food and uncomfortable resting situations after work. Also some cases of abandoned homeless animals suffered from starvation and loss of shelter were included, all these conditions were recorded and their photos were taken. All tough situations, resulted in animals suffering from injuries, long standing affections that cause chronic pain, restlessness, weakness, stresses, starvation and loss of function which interfered with their normal activities, health, production, reproduction and welfare. It is concluded that some animals suffered from inhumane situations due to their owners׳ carelessness and ignorance which exposed them to many physiological and psychological stresses. Delayed veterinary care, when animals΄ health is on the line, rough handling, inconvenient housing and management and abandonment diminish animals’ rights and deprive them of their welfare. The activation of Animal Welfare Act by the authorities is necessary.

Glycemic management medications have become increasingly complex and controversial. Plant-based traditional medicine has been proven worldwide as alternative treatment for diabetes. To evaluate the antidiabetic efficiency of Origanum majorana L extracts in normal and diabetic rats.Diabetes (Type 1 and type 2) were induced by administration of single intraperitoneal dose of 150 mg/kg of alloxan and ingestion of 20 mg/km of 50% w/v glucose once a day for 30 days respectively. The aqueous and methanolic extracts of O. majorana L was prepared and given to diabetic and hyperglycemic rats at 250 and 500 mg/kg/day orally for 30 days. Oral glucose tolerance test (GTT) was conducted in normal healthy rats using single dose of 350 mg/kg of each extract. At 30-day blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis. The result shows that alloxan induced diabetic groups treated with plant extracts had significantly lower fasting glucose level and glycosylated haemoglobin and improved lipid profile, insulin concentration was insignificantly changed. Blood glucose and cholesterol values were significantly decreased in glucose loaded rats treated with water extract at low dose. This study suggests that aqueous and methanolic extracts of O. majorana possess a potential antidiabetic activity for both type1 and type2 diabetes.

This paper represents a review of information collected from farmers, Veterinarians and other related job in relation to veterinary drug and pesticide residues in livestock and livestock products in Sudan. It was collected by using face to face interview structured questionnaire comprise of knowledge of drugs and pesticides. Residues in food have received much attention in recent years because of growing food safety, public health concerns. The levels of pesticide residues are now over alarming situation in certain countries, so consumers are becoming more worried about this, their presence in food of animal origin constitutes socioeconomic challenges of an international trade in animal and animal products. The questionnaire revealed that there is a general lack of awareness among food animal producer on the correct way of using veterinary drugs (40%) their withdrawal period, or clearance period (98%) while (19%) obtain drugs without prescription and (6%) are using growth promoter however, the data showed that (90%)of veterinarian do not calculate the dosing on body weight basis which might lead to over-dosing or sub-dosing, also there was lack of follow up of cases after leaving the clinic (60%). The wide spread of the misuse ,improper drug dispensing and handling practices can affect the drug potency and can also contribute to the veterinary drugs residues in the Sudanese food animals and their products.

The study was carried out to investigate it knowledge of towners and vetirian of ppn in sudan, the questionare was used to collect the data herd it owners. The results of the present study have identified the potential risk factors that are associated with the PPRV outbreaks occurrence in sheep in Sinnar, Gadarif, Kassala, River Nile and White Nile states of the Sudan, by using questionnaires The results of the questionnaire survey showed that Significant risk factors associated with PPRV in the univariate analysis using the chi square test were found to be species at animal level and production system, migration, animal movement, vaccination and disease history at herd level, while livestock density, climatic changes, veterinary services and wildlife were identified as risk factors at area level and all the identified risk factors noticed that they were management and animal husbandry based problems. In contrast, age, sex and breed at animal level and herd size, mixed species, housing, water, communal dipping at herd level, and elevation, livestock marketing system at area level were found not to be significantly associated with the occurrence of PPRV outbreaks.
