Abd Elmajid, Waleed Abd Elwahab
The main objective of this study is to investigate the role of translation as a tool to improve EFL learners’
skills (reading and writing). The study applied the experimental method in order to find out the impact of
practicing translation courses on the development of these skills. To analyze the data, the researcher
used (SPSS )program. The main findings of the research exposed that most students are unable to use
mono-lingual dictionaries let alone bi-lingual ones. Translation can be used as one of the subjects that
contribute significantly to the development of students’ language skills. Translation students must be
trained a lot on how to use monolingual and bi-lingual dictionaries. Teachers should concentrate on
fluency more than accuracy in English classes. The study also recommended using translation as one of
the curriculum in translation and English programs at universities.

Dawood, Mastura Mohamed Ibrahim; Mohammed, Mahammod Ali
The question of which language(s) could be used for teaching and learning is a crucial one in bilingual
and multilingual contexts. In former colonial countries, it is a question that has occupied the agendas of
many governments since they attained independence. Some countries have made strides towards
addressing it (e.g., Tanzania and Nigeria), although it continues to haunt others. In Sudan there are
similar cases of indigenous languages, namely the Tama Language in Dar Tam. Tama is such a small
minority in Dar Fur that is increasingly growing in numbers and importance. Tama people believe that
their language can at least be used at lower levels of general education if an adequate writing system is
devised. A number of studies have been conducted in this domain all have the objectives of creating an
effective writing system that will Tama young learners to use their language in education. Young learners
are already familiar with the Arabic script as they have been exposed to glorious Guran in Khalawa (a
pre-school setting). Arabic script can be suggested as the best type of script to be used for writing Tama
language.

This study aimed to investigate the possibility of using authentic materials to enhance writing report,
finding out the reasons behind the absence of using authentic materials to teach report writing as well as
clarifying the importance of using such materials in teaching writing for the work place, specifically
writing report. The researchers used descriptive analytical approach as well as experimental methodology
in the study. Tests and interview were the means of data collection. The subjects of the study were 90
students of marketing at Sudan University of Science and Technology, who were given the test before the
training sessions and divided equally into control and experimental groups then they had the same test as
post- test after the treatment. The tests results showed the significant differences between the
performance of students before and after the treatment which show the improvements of the level of the
experiment participants .This revealed the possibilities of using authentic materials and authentic tasks to
promote writing report. The interview which was conducted with 12 teachers who teach ESP at three
different Sudanese universities at Khartoum State also showed the importance of using authentic
materials to teach report writing which will solve the problem that is caused by unaffordable, expensive
textbooks. Teachers also believe that using such materials, motivate students and connect them to real
world of language usage which creates sense of purpose for learning. The interview also proved that the
absence of using authentic materials at treasury level is due to the lack of training on how to use them
among teachers. The above mentioned results have verified the hypotheses of the study.

Hamad, Sarrah Osman Eltom
This paper sets out to explore the teaching strategy of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) which is a collaborative
learning strategy in which students work together to solve a problem or answer a question about an
assigned reading. This technique requires students to think individually about a topic or an answer to a
question; and share ideas with classmates. Discussing an answer with a partner serves to maximize
participation, focus attention and engage students in comprehending the reading material. In this research
the effectiveness of think-pair-share is tested to find out whether the said technique will help
undergraduate students improve their oral delivery and whether the students are willing to learn speaking
through this technique. As many as fifty students at Ribat University students were chosen as population
for this study. The sample of the present study was divided into two major groups 25 students as the
experimental group and 25 ones as control. Speaking test and questionnaire have been the tools applied to
collect data to inform the study. Speaking test was used to obtain data of the students’ speaking ability
and a questionnaire was used to know the students’ interest in learning speaking English through Think-
Pair-Share technique. The researcher found that there was a noteworthy difference between achievement
of the students who applied Think-Pair-Share technique and who did not opt for Think-Pair-Share
technique in speaking.
