Abstract:
The study aims to develop learners’ Communicative Competence. To ensure that,
the study sets three hypotheses, third secondary students are weak in listening and
speaking skills, the implementation of the communicative activities impact
positively on teaching the listening and speaking skills, there is no a statistical
difference on the standards of the listening and speaking skills for the students who
are instructed according to the principles of the communicative activities and the
one who are instructed according to the traditional activities. The study applies the
experiment by selecting two groups of (41students) randomly, experimental
group(21students) and control group(20students) from Khartoum secondary
schools for boys. The study used the quantitative method.
After the statistical analysis of the pre-posttests for both groups the study revealed
that: third secondary school students are weak in listening and speaking,
communicative activities had impacted positively on teaching the listening and
speaking skills, there is statistical difference on the standards of the listening and
speaking skills for the students who are instructed according to the Communicative
Activities and the students who are instructed according to the Traditional one.
Then the study recommends that: Traditional activities should be replaced by the
communicative activities; English language teachers should receive large doses of
training on applying the principles of the communicative activities.
