Abstract:
This study was conducted at Khartoum state, at Soba
Hospital,Selma Center for dialysis and Khartoum North Center for
dialysis.Aquestionnaire was used for direct interview and the
objective of the study was cleary explained to all individuals
participating in the study. The study included 100 individuals , 80
patients and 20 as control.Blood samples was collected from
patients under 16 years suffering from end stage renal failure and
under dialysis.2.5 ml of venous blood was collected in EDTA
container .The following investigations were carried out (Hb,
HCT ,RBCs count ,MCV ,MCH ,MCHC, morphology of the
RBCs in stained blood film and detection of the type of anemia)
using an automated haematological analyzer(Sysmex).
The results showed that there was highly significant decreased in
mean of Hb level (9.6 g/dl), mean of HCT ( 29.27% ),mean of
RBC× 106/ml (3.5) ,Mean of MCV( 83.05fl), mean of MCH
(27.3pg) ,mean of MCHC(32.7g/dl), and the main type of anaemia
present was normocytic normochromic anaemia which is caused
by deficiency of erythropoietin hormone production by the
diseased kidney. There was microcytic hypochromic RBCs in
some cases, which might be due to iron deficiency. Also the results
showed that there was no significant differences between the mean
of Hb and type of dialysis also the duration of dialysis had no
effect on the mean level of Hb(P=0.432) ,HCT(P=0.608) and
RBCs count?(P=0.206).
