Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the frequencies of ABO, kell and cellano antigens among healthy Nuer tribe individuals.
100 volunteers (Age and sex were randomly selected) according to certain criteria and interviewed using questionnaire form. Venous blood samples were collected from them and analyzed using conventional antisera for ABO and ID technique for kell. SPSS computer program was used for data analysis.
The result showed following frequencies of ABO and kell phenotypes:
A phenotype 28%
B phenotype 11%
AB phenotype 2%
O phenotype 59%
Kell-1 phenotype 3%
Kell-2 phenotype 100%
- Conclusion
The frequency of kell-1 is 3%. While the frequency of kell-2 is 100%. In ABO system O is common than A, B and AB has low frequency.
- Recommendation
• Antibodies screening must be done for multiple transfused patients for the presence of anti-Kell antibodies.
• All mothers with history of babies with HDNB should be screened for anti-Kell antibodies beside anti-Rh.
• Researches should continue to study other antigens in kell system and other blood group systems, in this tribe and in Sudan at large.
