Abstract:
The objective of this study is to detect the normal Middle Cerebral Artery pulsatility index in Pakistani women at 30 weeks and 36 weeks of gestation. This study depends on practical scanning through which the data was collected in a data sheet. The study was conducted from March 2006- January 2007.
Method: One hundred patients of 30 weeks gestation and 36 weeks gestation were scanned for palsatility index of MCA in our institute.
► Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore – Pakistan.
Result: Total number of patients at 30 weeks gestation were 52 having mean PI of MCA= 2.1, While total number of patients at 36 weeks gestation were 48 having mean PI of 1.52.
PI of MCA decreases with advancing gestational age. It is higher at 30 weeks of gestation than at 36 weeks of gestation.
Conclusion: Ultrasound is frequently available non-invasive, un-expensive and easily assessable medical imaging modality.
PI of MCA study is recommended to be assessed at 30 weeks gestation and onwards to discover the abnormality. Accurate assessment of pulsatility index at appropriate site can help us in early diagnosis of IUGR and other abnormalities.
