Abstract:
This is a cross sectional descriptive analytical study design aimed to
measure hematological parameters of newborn cord blood in Mother
Bakhita maternity hospital in Dilling city in south Kordofan during
March to May 2011.
100 cord blood samples were collected in EDTA containing tubes and
analyzed for different hematological parameter by using sysmex KX21N.
The data analysis was done by using computer program (SPSS) statistical
package and social science version 11.5.The results revealed that
hemoglobin mean value was 14.0±1.5 gm/dl, hematocrit was 46.5±6.5%.
Red blood cells indices: MCV, MCH, and MCHC were112±6.9fl,
33.2±2pg and 30±1.7gm/dl, respectively. Whereas the total WBCs,
platelets, reticulocyte, and nucleated red blood cells and red blood cells
means count were 11.2±3.9x10⁹/l, 271±64.2x10⁹/l, 2.9±1.7%, 3.2±3.1%
and 4.1±0.6 x10¹²/l. respectively. The mean value of Neutrophils was
60.9±15.5%, lymphocytes was 37±5.8%, monocytes was1.5±1.6%,
eosinophils was 1.2±1.3% and basophils was 0.01±0.1%.The study
revealed that gender, gravidity, and mode of delivery have no
significant difference on cord blood hematological parameters , except
MCV mean value which was (112 ±6.9 )fl in spontaneous vaginal
delivery which was significantly higher than in caesarean section was
(111±6.0), also monocyte mean value was (1.9±1.8)% in caesarean
section which was significantly higher than in spontaneous vaginal
delivery was (1±1.2)
