Abstract:
This study is a descriptive - prospective cross sectional analytical study
which conducted at Military hospital over a period of three months from
February to April 2012 to determine the frequency of ABO blood group
among Helicobacter pylori Sudanese patients attending Military hospital-
Khartoum State.
The study was carried on 100 Sudanese patient's, blood sample was taken
following informed consent .All samples were tested for the helicobacter
pylori antibody in patient's serum using H. pylori card and tested for ABO
blood group using tube method.
The frequency of ABO blood group showed that the O blood group was the
most frequent with frequency (66%) followed by A(19%) , B (14% ) whereas
AB were the lowest frequency (1%). Frequency of gender among study
group: male were (41%), female were (59%).
Smoking status frequency among the study group showed that: smokers
(18%) while non-smokers (82%).
The data were entered and analyzed using Microsoft office excel 2003 and
statistical package for social science (SPSS), and Chi square test.
The results showed that there was a significant association between ABO
blood group and H. pylori infection, as well as significant association
between H. pylori infection and age. Regarding gender there was no
significant association between gender and H. Pylori infection and there was
no significant association resulting from smoking status in Sudanese H.
pylori infected patients.
