Abstract:
This is descriptive cross sectional study which was carried
out in Khartoum state, in period from March 2013 to August
2013 to assess the effects of schistosomiasis in coagulation
cascade parameters.
50 diagnosed schistosomiasis patients and 25 healthy
individuals whole were selected as study group after
agreement of participation in this study.
4.5ml of venous blood was drawn from each participant in
this study, placed in 0.5 tri sodium citrate container, then
centrifuge to get platelets poor plasma (PPP) to assess
Prothrombin time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time.
The results were analyzed using SPSS version14.0, and the
mean of each parameter was calculated.
The correlation of PT level between case and control group
show signcant increase in mean of PT among case group
(18.9 sec) and control group (14.1 sec) with P.value (0.000).
The correlation of APTT level between case and control group
show signcant increase in mean of APTT among case group
(51.2 sec) and control group (36.2 sec) with P.value (0.000).
The study indicated there was an effect of schistosomiasis
on coagulation cascade.
